I have to start by saying a big well done to the lads on Friday.
It shows just how far we have come, when we come off the pitch and the lads
are really disappointed to of only drawn 2-2 with the team second in the league,
who have only lost one game all season.
This is a really good sign for me, that the boys realise they are good
enough to have won the game.
We had a great start and I actually knew the lads were up for it, just from
our warm up.
I started the game with Sonny in goal, a back
three of Ottaman, Flynn and Sonny, with Bobby and Andre in midfield, with
Yonaton up front, as I felt that against a good side, we needed Yonaton up front
to hold the ball up and give us a threat over the top.
Andre was given a start, simply because of
his performance in training, week in week out, he applies himself great and
deserved his chance. Louis was unfortunate to lose his place, as he has done
well for us, but I was delighted in his response.
After a tight start, we were awarded a free
kick, just left of centre and about 20 yards out. I had instructed Flynn to take
the free kicks on the left, and he didn’t let us down. Curling the ball over the
wall and in the bottom corner, it was a great finish to put us one nil
up.
The lads were now playing really well and
with confidence, their application being first class. After good play, we gained
a corner from the left. Bobby stepped up to take it, swinging it in with his
right foot. Yonaton’s movement in the box was excellent, pulling off his man, to
deliver the goal of the season for me. We have had some great finishing this
season, but taking the cross on the volley and blasting it in the corner, was
absolutely beautiful. The technique he showed and the timing was sublime. A
great goal mate, a tough one to beat. Well done.
We were actually comfortable now at 2-0, and
although they had one stand out player in their number 9, along with other good
players, we restricted them to long range efforts, which when you have a goal
keeper of the quality that we have, it was not a problem. we came off at half
time 2-0 up. Speaking to the lads at half time, I stressed that if we kept our
discipline and shape, and kept our work rate up, then we will win the game. It
was obvious that the other team were going to come out playing better, they have
only lost one game all season.
We started the second half well, and had a
couple of good chances to go 3-0 up. Unfortunately our finishing let us
down.
They did put more pressure on us, and yet
again, our fabulous Sonny pulled off a couple of sensational saves. I have said
it before, but we take Sonny for granted, to have him in goal for us is a
delight. Yet again mate, you were superb.
We will learn from the first goal, as will
Sonny. He lined his wall up, yet still had Ottaman in front of him. Ottaman did
clear the initial free kick but it fell to them and their lad finished it really
well to be honest. I explained after the game that Sonny is good enough just to
have a wall, and he doesn’t need another defender there. He will soon learn to
be bossing the lads around and having them where he wants them, as any good
goalkeeper I ever worked with was a mouth almighty.
The goal lifted the opposition and to be fair to them, their
number 9 popped up with a great finish, giving Sonny no chance,
to equalize. We held on well at the end to give the lads
credit, and it could of gone either way.
As I’ve already said, Sonny was again first class for us in
goal. A number of fabulous saves kept us in front and also got us the
draw.
Ottaman is just the most laid back, comfortable character I
know, again his defending was great.
Sonny had a knock, and although I actually gave him a couple
of ear fulls, we have to give him credit for soldiering on. He didn’t have his
best game, simply because he has set himself such high standards. I told him
after the game and he took it well and I’m sure will be back next
game.
Flynn for me was fabulous. He reads the game probably better
than anyone, and always looks comfortable on the ball. If I’m honest, I probably
took a little something away from his game by asking him to do a job for me at
the back, I just felt that we needed someone there like Flynn, to keep us tight.
Well done mate, you are looking a good player.
Andre started well, is another laid back player, but sometimes
in the wrong way. I am trying to teach the lads to be quicker on the ball, and
when Andre has the ball he doesn’t panic, I am just trying to get him to do
things quicker. I don’t worry about him though, as he listens to what you are
saying and always tries to do the right things.
Bobby, well what do i say. He is an absolute gem. His work
rate, application and ability are first class. He showed us everything from a
great first touch, several times pulling it out of the air with ease (he
certainly doesn’t get that from his old man, as I have played with him.....!) to
tackles, passing and as always, tireless effort. Man of the Match.
Yonaton is a complete threat up front for us. Not only did he
score a world class goal, he looked dangerous every time he got it to his feet,
defenders are certainly frightened of him. I will now keep him up front and I
will work on his game from a forwards point of view instead of a midfielder. I
need to improve his positional play up front, but by god, when we get that
sorted, watch out defenders.
Louis came on quite early, and certainly started as though he
had a point to prove to me for leaving him out. I mentioned before that I feel
Louis is better in midfield than up front with his back to goal. He was flying
into tackles and winning the ball for us, exactly what I want from my
midfielders. Near the end of the game, his enthusiasm gave away a number of free
kicks. I certainly don’t want to take away his tackling, it is down to me to now
teach him when and where, but I did change him as it was causing us problems. I
explained why I had bought him off and he understood.
Samuel is another player that when I have called on him, he
has done well for me. He knows he is still working on his game, but there is a
big improvement already. Again he came up with some vital tackles for us. He is
a pest in a good way for us, as he gets everywhere, exactly what you need, and
he always listens to what he is told. A valuable member of our
team.
Hamish hasn’t been able to train this week due to an injury.
He was fit for the game and when put on, I see him trying to do the right
things. I can’t ask for any more than seeing that a player is listening to me
and trying to do as I ask. Again he knows he is still learning, but with his
attitude towards playing and the fact he does listen and puts this into
practice, I have no worries about him. It is also a delight to see that when he
isn’t playing, he is our best supporter, never stopping cheering his team mates
on and the delight on his face when we score, whether he is involved in the goal
or not, is great to see.
Well done again boys, I was once again proud of you all. We
are getting there, it is only a matter of time before everyone worries about
playing us.
Another game tomorrow (Monday) so we WON’T be training
on Tuesday. Training as normal Thursday.

Fri 20.01.2012 Under 10A 6-2 V Vasquez Cultural
22 January 2012
The team approached this game with more confidence
after last weeks win.
The opposition this week were stronger than last
weeks team and had many much bigger boys.
This would however not be a problem , we were much
faster & well organised . From the beginning we were winning all the
tackles and our defence looked solid & composed .
Emile gave us composure in the middle and
with his ability it was not long before he had scored . Daniel & Jasper
were always on hand and it was pleasing to see Daniel cutting inside from the
wings and making good use of the ball.
When the opposition did break, Aurora , Nathan
& Oliver were always there to break up play and win the ball back - I don’t
think Aurora missed one tackle and Nathan was once again confident of his own
ability to bring the ball out of defence before passing it off to one of our
midfield/ attackers.
Emile then added a 2nd goal after some good
individual work . Generally we were not looking under threat with Benjamin not
having to make a save yet.
Then the opposition got a free - kick just outside the box . Benjamin
parried the shot out , but for once our team was not alert and the ball fell to
an opposition player who eventually put the ball in the net 2-1.
We had two subs for this match - Alex ( who had remarkably recovered from a
split head the day before) & Ben Wells. Half way through the first half
Jasper ( having not stopped running for 15 mins ) came off for Alex .
Alex’s pace was an immediate threat and he
continually probed down the right side , running past several players with ease
and being unlucky not to score.
Then Daniel broke on the left wing & this time
he had taken on board what we had been telling him - to come in side once he
gets to the goal area and either get a good cross in or get a shot on goal .
This time he gave a great pass to Alex , who controlled the ball well and laid
it off nicely to Emile on his left . Emile took one touch and then put the ball
in the top corner 3-1.
Emile then came off and Ben Wells came to see out
the last 5 mins of the first half finishing 3-1.
Emile then replaced Ben Wells for the start of the
2nd half . We started strongly again with several good attacks without
resulting in a goal .
Then Daniel broke down the left wing passing 2
defenders with his pace , this time he had the ball under more control and cut
inside into the box with a defender trying to chase him , finally he got a shot
in which the goalkeeper could not save 4-1 .
Once again our defence had been looking solid
dealing with everything the opposition could throw at them . With a 3 goal
difference the opposition were allowed to bring on an extra player - this soon
had an effect with one of their players breaking down the wing passing first
Oliver and then Nathan , with numbers in the box they eventually scored
4-2.
Daniel then came off for Jasper , who got stuck in
and broke up the opposition play.
With opposition having had to take the extra player
off had an almost immediate effect - we broke out of defence , with Nathan
taking the ball past 3 players and laying it off to Emile and after another bit
of individual skill , he scored his 4th goal 5-2.
Alex then came off and Ben Wells came on at right
midfield , this time he came on having listened to what Damien & myself had
been telling him we wanted him to do . Immediately he was getting much more
involved in the play getting forward but more importantly getting back and
helping out when we lost the ball . Ben was then heavily involved in the next
attack and could have scored himself , but the ball eventually fell to Emile who
netted his 5th 6-2.
The extra player then took effect again with the
defence under more pressure but once again they stood strong and Benjamin showed
his increasing confidence in goal not only in his handling but also playing as a
last defender coming off his line a couple of times to thwart the
attack.
With 5 minutes to go , Oliver came off and Alex
came on at right back . The opposition had a couple of fast players on this side
of the pitch , but they were no match for Alex’s pace and he got back to make
several tackles as a result .
Final Score 6-2.
Emile would have been the obvious choice for man of
the match , but it went to Nathan who was very strong in defence , assured on
the ball and is learning when to make those runs out without jeopardising his
first job , which is defending.
Well Done again everyone - lets keep it
up.

New home for Inter Marbella
30 August 2011
After 9 years, Inter Marbella have been moved by the Ayuntamiento to the Santa Maria pitch in Elvira where Las Chapas Play. We have no doubt that there will be a mixed reaction to this move, and we have appealed to the Ayuntamiento to review the situation. However for the time being, we shall train for 5pm - 8pm at the Las Chapas pitch, which is only a further 5 minute drive up the N340 and look forward to establishing ourselves away from Pablo Picasso for the coming season.
We sincerely hope that players coming from the San Pedro area will continue to play with us. If any of you have queries or concerns please email info@intermarbellacf.com.

FA CUP HERO WITH 2 GOALS
04 November 2010
Former Inter player Pelayo Gomez has a dream come true as not only was he the first Spaniard to play for ST. Albans in the FA Cup, he also helped himself to 2 fantastic goals to set up a tie against Luton Town in the next round....
Pelayo, who is currently on work experience with Blue Square team St. Albans City, has always dreamed of playing in the FA Cup. He was watched by his parents who flew out from Marbella especially, and by Inter Academy Director Craig Mander.
Craig Mander said "it makes me feel extremely proud that an Inter player, and a young lad from Marbella has played in the FA Cup. We are just checking the record books, as we believe that Pelayo is actually the youngest Spaniard to score in the FA Cup beating none other than Cesc Fabregas. Im sure we will be thinking of Pelayo more regularly in that bracket very soon. He is a credit to his club Brentford FC, to Inter Marbella and what we are about and to Marbella"
