AFA Marbella, Andalucian Football Academy, has been established now for 11 years.
Originally started as an Alan Ball Soccer School, AFA has been through many changes over the last few seasons. AFA used to stand for Aloha Football Academy, and was founded by then teacher Mike Kirkland.
Mike persued a career in professional football and his hard work was rewarded when he was appointed as Under 19's coach for Hibernian FC in the Scottish Premier League.
Since Mike Kirklands' departure, AFA has been restructured and taken in a slightly new direction.
New owners and current Club Directors Craig Mander, and David Read seek to build on what Mike created and bring more organisation, better communication, and better quality to AFA for all current and any new players and parents of AFA Marbella.
Early 2007 saw the new Soccer Camps held during the school holidays, and the introduction of the Pro Development Programme for young players under 8 years old is just the beginning.
All coaches at AFA are fully UEFA qualified and experienced. They all know how to get the best out of their players. Players are encouraged to express their individual flair and ability, but also given basic grounding in team work, sportsmanship and a winning mentality.
AFA were the first international club to compete in the Federal League of Malaga and is part of Pablo Picasso C.F.
The playing and training facilities are just across the road from La Canada and attract players from as far as Estepona and Torremolinos.
Due to some hard work over the summer, AFA is also now affiliated to Peterboro United FC in UK. Several players each season go on trials with the view to playing professional football.
AFA also strongly support education, and to this end have set up the possibility of offering players to option of taking scholarships with the top Sports University in Europe, Loughborough. AFA coaches also regularly run coaching sessions at the EIC and St. Anthonys International Schools and Les Roches Hospitality University in Marbella.
