It has been a tough year for Pelayo Gomez, adjusting to life as a footballer and moving to London, but we caught up with him at the end of August to assess how the year has gone.
Pelayo has been a regular player and scorer in the Reserves team since breaking in just after Christmas, and enjoyed some press coverage after scoring 2 goals against Gillingham in the HOUNSLOW CHRONICLE. He has also trained a few times with the first team squad.
To get valuable first team experience, Pelayo was taken out of the youth team and placed on loan at Carshalton Athletic, who at the time were fighting to avoid relegation in the Ryman Premier league.
In fact the week Pelayo arrived they occupied one of 3 relegation places.
Fortunately Pelayo adapted quickly and his 3 goals earned vital points and helped them avoid relegation. An experience that will serve him very well in the future.
There is still a long way to go before he gets that Professional Contract, but Pelayo will be working hard when he returns to Marbella in a week or so for his holiday before going back for Pre Season training. Pelayo will be dedicated to keeping his fitness levels up, and I'm sure we will see him back at AFA to help out sooner rather than later.
We will keep up with his progress and post further news here as he makes a big push to secure a spot in the first team.
When the 3 players went over for trials with Brentford at the end of April 2010, Craig took some new photos which we would like to share with you now.
